Come 2019, if you’re looking for fresh ideas and inspiration then here are my TOP must read blogs.

Since one of my favourite creative books is ‘Steal Like An Artist’. I’m going to kick off the first post on this shiny new blog with a bit of a good old fashioned stealing!
I follow about a million blogs to keep up to date on what’s happening in this industry that moves suuuper fast (fyi feedly is my tool of choice).
Come 2019, if you’re looking for fresh ideas and inspiration then here are my TOP must read blogs.
Alexandra Franzen Not strictly marketing, this talented lady writes about a range of topics… creativity, yoga, getting unstuck and most consistently – she creates fantastic how to guides and tips on how to become a better writer. I highly recommend her stuff and always look forward to her notes arriving in my inbox.
2019 favourite: Alex recently ran a 24hr competition which I just loved (and I challenge you to write your own list). The question (based on her new book) is a fantastic one to reflect on as the year winds to a close.
Omg what did we do before Ted Talks were created. These are just an amazing trove of insights and information. Aside from keeping abreast of new ways of thinking I also love to use these as icebreakers or kick offs to brainstorming meetings.
An all time fav of mine that is perfect for work environments is Shawn Achor’s – The Happy Secret to Better Work (ALWAYS a winner and will leave everyone smiling I promise).
Yes it’s been around forever, but there is a reason this guy is the all-time guru of all things marketing! Plus his posts are short and snappy and fast to read. Great if your super busy but still want to be inspired to new ways of thinking.
A few favourites to get you started…
Thinking about your career as a series of projects: Thirty Years of Projects
Start small, start now (see what I mean about easy to read)
Search engine land can be a confusing place. Especially when the search engine gods (e.g. Google) change their algorithms so often. The Moz blog is my go-to spot for keeping my SEO skills and knowledge in tip-top shape. I love how practical and ‘how-to’ orientated their work is. They also do a great whiteboard Friday session (video) – great for coming away with ACTIONABLE insights, rather than just ‘good to know so I sound smart’ stuff.
If you’ve ever worked in a marketing role then you will find these cartoons
1. Hilarious
2. Scarily accurate!
Jokes aside though, I also love to use these cartoons to think about what you’re doing in different ways – and in some cases make sure your NOT doing what this guy illustrates!
Recent favourite: The Marketing Dashboard – complete with vanity metric that has nothing to do with sales
